The scavenger factory works as a T1 factory(a factory whit 1 module, no upgrades). And it has a different texture and model, but it still uses a 3x3 space.Attempting to upgrade the factory will result in a game crash,because Warzone 2100 is not coded to do such thing thereso it will crash.
